Great to see you Kangaroo Flat PS

The Children’s Book Council of Australia Sun Shadow Judging project was an honour to be involved with.
I loved our conversations about my creative process, the journey of Jetty Jumping, the reasons behind the language I chose, and the first time I saw Hannah Sommerville’s initial sketches.
They told me so much about their interpretation of the book. I felt like I was in a unique masterclass hosted by young readers as well. Saying Yes to opportunities like this as an author is exceptionally special.
Kangaroo Flat PS are one of a group of young people across Australia helping judge the CBCA Book of the Year Shortlist alongside the esteemed judging panel.
They participate in critical conversations and have a visit from Shortlist creatives of their choice to share insights on how we weave literary techniques into storytelling.
You can learn more about my visit here
You can read about other school’s Shadow Judging of Jetty Jumping here
And there’s a lovely video from the Book Wizards of Stella Maris Primary School.
After CBCA Book Week the students contribute to a Shadowers’ Choice Award.
My visit even made it into the Bendigo Advertiser while I was there.

Thanks to the CBCA for this fun opportunity. Kangaroo Flat PS is a fabulous school!

Cheers,

Andrea
