Book launch joy

The pandemic and recent 3rd Victorian Lockdown took a load of moments from us, but not the joy of reading.

And today, not the joy of gathering to welcome a book into the world.

A Lockdown Liberty Book Launch has a mighty fine ring to it and in two short days, we managed to make some book launch magic happen.

We all get by with a little help from my friends, and some wonderful pals came together to help me organise a book launch in two days as COVID restrictions eased in our Victorian State.

Thanks to Portsea Camp for allowing me to host my launch with plenty of room for social distancing, and distant jetty gazing!

It was an incredible coastal location where the echoes of summer squeals put a smile on your face immediately. Portsea Camp is a sunny spot above the water where magic moments happen.

Special thanks to those who could gather, and I so wish that the many who were restricted by border closures and lockdown limitations could have joined me too.

Book launch thanks and cheers

Illustrator Hannah Sommerville

Hannah was so missed. She’s in a little town on the NSW coastline and I’m stuck on the other side of border lockdowns in Victoria.

We’re adamant that we will try and find a way to gather soon! Her talent deserves it’s a moment in the summer sun too!

Little Hare Books Editor Alyson O'Brien

I got so very lucky with the incredible Alyson O’Brien of Hardie Grant Children’s Book / Little Hare Publishing.

I’ve learnt so much from Alyson and been in the best of hands. To celebrate this special moment with her driving down from the Big Smoke was a rather special moment.

Alyson said some super special things about Hannah and I that I’ve put in my memory box for great life moments.

Antipodes Bookshop and Gallery

Of all the bookstores in all the world, I had to walk into Antipodes Bookshop and Gallery (and Little Antipodes downstairs).

I love lurking around their bookshelves and soaking up all those sweet book juices. Jane and Max from Antipodes scrounged around for the last remaining stock (did I mention I was at reprint on the day of my book launch?)

They closely guarded that much-coveted stock and the crowds gathered, and joyfully released them into readers hands. Jane gave a lovely speech that made me blush.

Jetty vibe styling, summer berries, pals pouring bubbles, mates buying books

If you ever feel lost organising a book launch – I need to hire out these special folks! Gold star book launch people.

My pal Coco de Love, of Hotel de Love airbnb styled the Nautilus Room at Portsea Camp with wonderfully nostalgic jetty accessories and retro summer bling like her sets fo collector vintage beach towels.

The farm-fresh team at Fruits from the Ridge delivered fresh-picked, slurpalicious berry cups to match the book cover.

Mates served bubbles for big folks and zooper doopers for kids, friends took pics (special thanks Yanni Dellaportas) and family helped welcome the gang.

It was a genuine grass-roots, homegrown book wedding!

Thanks for supporting me if you came, or tuned in via Facebook Live

My book launch was something special and I’ll treasure it. For all the booksellers, sales reps, librarians, teachers and book reviewers who are spreading the news and supporting buying Jetty Jumping – I can’t thank you enough.

I’m now well practised with my book pen signature flourish.

Grins and jetty spins,

Cheers,

Andrea
