I invented a new word ….

‘Shoy’ is a term to describe the state of shock and joy a debut author feels when their book is announced as a 2022 Notable Early Childhood Book in the Children’s Book Council of Australia Children’s Book of the Year Awards.
Sure, I may have made the word up, but the state of shoy is a beautiful thing.
You can’t make that feeling up!
Thanks also to Children’s Book Council of Australia (Vic) for a fabulous evening being actually out with writers and publishers face to face!
So chuffed to be considered by such respected judges and such happy congrats to all the notables. It was such a special face-to-face event with my Publisher Alyson O’Brien of Hardie Grant.
She was on a  roll with 3 of her authors being Notabled too on the evening!
(and G’day Melbourne after 2 years of lockdowns!)

So much love out there for Jetty Jumping

Thank you for so many messages of congrats for the Notables announcement – they have been lovely to read via email, social media and text. I have passed them all on to Hannah Sommerville, the most insanely talented illustrator of Jetty Jumping.

So many schools I visited last year online for Children’s Book Council of Australia Book Week have also sent good wishes like this lovely one from Thomas Acres Primary School:

“Hi Andrea,
I just wanted to send a quick congratulations on making the Notable nominations for the CBCA book of the year. I’m sure you will go even further with it. Thanks again for sharing your knowledge and time with my previous class last year. This year we have started with looking at ‘when I grow up’ and a lot of the 1G kidlets from last year have said author because of you.
Hope you’ve been keeping safe and well.
Kind Regards,
Maddie”

I truly loved all those Book Week and beyond virtual visits and face to face talks, and the curious and creative discussions we had together. I love how teachers cultivate the love of literature and exploration alongside author chats. Thanks for being such super cheerleaders!

Congratulations to all the 2022 Notables and greatest of gratitude to the CBCA judges for your consideration.
