This library kid is thrilled to have grown up to become a library ambassador.
The Big Summer Read is here, and I am super-dooper chuffed to be one of its 12 ambassadors.
This free program challenges kids to read all summer long, running from December 1 to January 31, and aimed at keeping kids connected with books over the summer holidays throughout Victorian libraries, as well as libraries in NSW, Queensland and Tasmania.
Last year over 15,000 children registered for the challenge, and together they read over 200,000 books.
The Big Summer Read is back for a 4th year, continuing to foster a love of reading, and addresses the slide in literacy through inviting kids to register to read and win prizes, enjoy interactive library programs, online gallery connections and swap card collecting.
Beyond the chill-out time these school holidays, kids truly benefit from the tune into books enjoyment, and grownups can help them stay the course, feel the love of books and gain a sense of achievement through the Big Summer Read.
Sign your young readers up this summer, help address the loss of literacy skills, log their reads (including audiobooks) and keep 0 – 18 year olds engaged with reading and building skills.
Keep an eye out in libraries for cool Big Summer Read swap cards featuring fellow Big Summer Read ambassadors Sally Rippin, Gabrielle Wang, Alice Pung, Andy Griffiths, Aunty Fay Muri, Jess Racklyeft, Andrew McDonald, Ben Wood, Sarah Allen, Jordan Gould, and Richard Pritchard.
