Audrey Skips is officially launched
“Audrey skip-step-skips from her pose with a cheeky little toe.”
AUDREY SKIPS is now launched to a packed The Little Bookroom (another beloved Melbourne icon) this weekend as we celebrated a new picture book to coincide with 90 years of The Skipping Girl.
Melbourne’s icon is a 90-year-old neon sign with a story to treasure, and a view of our city history and change. She means to much to all who visit and live in Melbourne, and it meant so much to illustrator Lisa Coutts and I to collaborate on this most magical symbol that we looked for as children in our skyline.
We aren’t alone in our adoration of Audrey, the Skipping Girl, and so many of folks joined us to revisit and celebrate their own memories as we launched our picture book.
Thank you also to MidnightSun Publishing for seeing her story and supporting our picture book vision.
Melbourne’s beloved Skipping Girl sure gives main character energy. I have loved shining the light on her story and remind us to look up and treasure her history.
That’s why I wrote AUDREY SKIPS, illustrated by super talented Lisa Coutts to remind us to treasure this iconic Australian neon sign, while reimagining her adventures along our skyline.
A huge hurrah to Lisa for reimagining Audrey with me with such wonder and authenticity.
Our event was wonderfully MC’d by middle grade and YA author Karen Comer (who has her own award-winning Audrey inspired Sunshine on Vinegar Street verse novel). It’s lovely to collaborate for celebrations with other creatives t with like-minded literature.
Thanks to all who joined us! Audrey Skips is delighted to skip into readers hands!
