It’s a world where tests and trials have you holding your breath – hoping for luck, for the next specialist appointment, for the drugs you can afford, for an opening on the latest trial, for your hair to grow back, for your scars to heal, for the pain to go away – for today’s fight to be worth it. It’s a world of hoping that the unwanted guest that is cancer will leave your body.
That hope isn’t always realised.
But all over Australia this week small communities and pockets of people gather together to raise their cups of tea in support.
Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea is an opportunity for friends, family or workmates to come together, share a cuppa and some delicious food, raise money and help those affected by cancer. The national campaign recognises how the Cancer Council saves lives through prevention, and offers vital counselling and support services.
Women of the Mornington Peninsula are no stranger to its support and this week they dunked dollars into their cuppas, in a show of fundraising solidarity.
Over 40 Mornington Peninsula business women gathered on Thursday 11th May for a cuppa for cancer. The Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea charity event held in Dromana’s Green Room raised over $3, 236.50 and connected business women from Frankston to Portsea.
That’s $3, 236.50 of hope and support.
With entertainment by Australia’s leading female magician Cath Jamison, auction items, manicures, massages and food from Peninsula’s caterers, the event raised money which goes direct to the Cancer Council
It was hosted by the Mornington Peninsula Business Women Facebook Group with local business women Jo Violeta, Janelle Curry, Janet McNeill and Caroline Leslie making it fun, fast-paced and fabulous.
The day is as much about supporting each other in our community as it is about supporting the Cancer Council. We were thrilled to be coming together as peninsula women to support this great cause, and thank the Cancer Council for all the wonderful work it does in our community in so many ways,” said Jo.
It doesn’t matter if you are a successful business woman, juggling part time work or starting out in your own business – if you are touched by cancer you need all the help you can get”.
So many generous local businesses donated their time and expertise to the charity day yet again – we can’t thank their generous spirits enough.”
With so much hope and holding of breath when a diagnosis of cancer is delivered and treatment commences, it’s community events like this that remind us all we can still help.
Bravo ladies of the Peninsula – your giving makes a difference.
Same place, same time next year for another wonderful and worthy event!
