What do we call a gathering of writers?  A flock? A crowd? A murder? A gaggle? Someone recently suggested to me that it was a scribe. That’ll do. A scribe it is.

Around these parts, we also call ourselves the Peninsula Writers’ Club.

Based on the Mornington Peninsula the Peninsula Writers’ Club connects writers and aspiring authors.

The club is free to join, and is a networking and social gathering open to published writers, aspiring writers, freelancers, journalists, editors, bloggers, copywriters and those with scribe-like itches to scratch. The volunteer club is a resource sharing, encouraging, championing and celebrating forum.

For many members who write on a daily basis it’s also an opportunity to just switch off the laptop and hang with other word-nerds, share their latest reads, feel accountable to one another and motivated to continue to write.

Modelled on the well-established Melbourne Writers’ Club, the group hosts guest speakers at monthly informal dinner / drinks evenings covering writing disciplines and  genres, practical tips for pitching to and dealing with publishers, digital writing insights, book-selling and presentation and celebrates personal writing achievements.

The group explores topics and discussion points hosted by experienced members which reflect areas they are proficient in. Subjects such as editing, plot development, freelance services and pricing, connecting with agents, editing styles and buzz words will also be tackled. The group is currently investigating writing exercises, the sharing of writing events, competitions and writing workshops in the future.

Writing collaborations have been flourishing, as has the social opportunities for members to share other events and forums with like-minded company.

Essentially it is a supportive and inspiring space for writers and aspiring writers to feel at home at its host venue Cakes and Ale in Sorrento.

(Founders Nikki Fisher & Andrea Rowe)

The group is the brainchild of copywriting freelancer Andrea Rowe of Your Coastal Connection and Nikki Fisher, a freelance writer specialising in the gourmet, wholefood and catering industry.

We’ve loved the conversations we have between deadlines and in sharing ideas and contacts so the Peninsula Writers’ Club has been a very natural progression. We have access to a number of other talented writers and editors, as well as some sensational authors in our community. We’re all about nurturing an inspiring networking opportunity for the talented pool of folk who reside on the Peninsula, and who visit it”

The club also welcomes guest speakers and is currently taking 2017 enquiries and submissions.
